95 Grand Cherokee Orvis--electrical problems

My Jeep has two problems. The first one is the Alarm System is whacky. Sometimes when I get in, the Jeep won't start, because it thinks I broke in to the car. I used a key to get in. So, I often have to go to the passenger side to unlock....then get back in the driver side and lock it from the inside, then it might crank. Sometimes I have to jump the truck off just to reset everything. It might act ok for a couple of days, then I'll get out lock the doors and walk away and just as I get in the house....the stupid alarm will go off for no reason, nobody's near the Jeep. It just goes off when it wants to. How can I simply disarm the security system without messing up anything else. This problem has been going on for almost a year, and no mechanic wants to touch it.

Also, today my blinkers and flashers stopped working. The blinker fuse was replaced with no change. There is no clicking from the relay. Just nothing. Nothing lights up inside or outside for the blinkers. The bulbs are ok. What should I try next?

Thanks for any and all help.

part of it solved

Well, folks....it seems that you take the Jeep up to the local Nappa store and there is this young kid that works the counter that says "I know what the problem is." The Flasher/turnsignal relay....which is in the panel in the Glove Box (top row, last one on the right side....got stuck.............he removes the replacement relay, which was the wrong one....seems the part's stores only cary 2 bulb relays.......and only the Jeep dealer has the four bulber for the 95 JGC. So I get a refund for being sold the wrong one....Nappa, CarQuest, AutoZone, etc all have the wrong replacement listed in their computer. Now check this out....the kid takes the original relay and slams it into the pavement....and say's there that will fix the turn signal part of it until you can get a replacement from Jeep. He snaps it back in..........and sure enough....I have blinkers. I should have figured as such from my past experience with mainframe computers....if all else fails.....hit the dang thing!

Thank you for all of your input..............now if I can just figure out why my alarm system has been screwed up for over a year........and how to keep my dog from hiking his leg on the couch......I'll have it made in the shade.

JGC Security Alarm

I have the same problem you have with the alarm system. It cost me $154 to have the mechanic say when it happens to take the positive battery cable off for an hour or so and then lock and unlock the driver side door with the key until it resets. What a pain in the hiner that is. You never know when it is going to happen. Isn't there a better fix than that??

Question Diconnect Alarm

I'm also having wacky problems with the alarm on my 95 Grand Cherokee. I just want to disconnect it. Has anyone ever done this that could provide (hopefully simple) directions???

security system problem

If you have remote try 9-16 response with programming instructions. believe 93-96 same
The reason you have to unlock on pass side is drivers side door lock solenoid is wore out. To manually disable security system do the following:
On any door or tailgate key lock(not drivers side in your case) turn key twice to the left quickly, then once to the right to disable security system.
Security system is integral to vehicle and cannot be disabled. there are at least 7 fuses that interface with security system.
Your prob sounds like loose connector on one of your ecm modules..
you might try reseating and refastening connectors to all ecms.
don't bother with one by air filter. its for brakes only

Re: 95 Grand Cherokee Orvis--electrical problems

Hey Everyone.
I'm new to this site and have been reviewing different threads for the past hour or so...and decided to join and kick-in my 2 cents!
I'm convinced that a bunch of these similar threads have to do with a power drain and random alarm problems. My 94 GC 5.2L started giving me issues last winter and they went away all summer. Now that we've returned to the cold (I live in Northern Ontario) they're back!
Twice this month I've gone out in the morning to a dead vehicle. Yesterday was the latest...I was able to hook it up to a spare battery. As soon as this is done the alarm system triggers. I try to disarm this by turning the key in the passenger door and it appears to work. However, when you attemp to start it the beast will fire and then stall. It needs repeated coaxing to keep going and idle and then it ran rough. This is probably the 6-7th time something like this has happened (only in the winter!). In the past it usually takes several days before the throttle response returns to normal.
I also can't lock the doors and then unlock them with the driver's door; this always sets off the SOB alarm. Recently, my tailgate lock stopped working properly. I can lock and unlock it with the power locks from either door arm but can't do it with my key.
Everytime I have to disconnect the battery to do any work the hard starting and rough running thing returns to make the next couple of days a real treat.
Yesterday I had it back in the shop and my mechanic said that the battery was holding charge and that there didn't seem to be a drain...
I've also seen, however, the symptom described elsewhere with the voltmeter dropping significantly when at lower engine reves, almost as if the alternator is bad (I don't think mine is, as this is the second alternator I've seen this with). The voltage drop on the meter isn't always consistent, either.
I wish someone could help with these issues. I love this vehicle when it's working and am almost ready to give up hope. I put a new fuel pump in it recently because that's what the dealer said ...I'm $600 poorer and no further ahead!
Any ideas would be great and I will post any ideas or solutions that are offered by my new service shop (no more dealer!!)
If a different aftermarket alarm system would help, can anybody suggest one that they've had good results with?!
Thanks,
Derek.
