If you know what you're doing it shouldn't be hard. If you're going to put a built 390 in, you may want to consider changing the whole drivetrain. I'm guessing it's still got the original tranny, rear end, and even the original motor mounts. All that, you're going to want to consider replacing or repairing before you just swap a new motor into the car. That can add a level of difficulty finding out what OE parts need to be replaced because of age. Also, you may want to check the original wiring harness, those have problems with the old wiring shorting out. As far as taking the engine out, you can do one of two things; Get a cherry picker and take it out through the top, or unbolt everything and drop it out through the bottom.

Good luck

The actual swap isn't too bad and you can probably handle it. Try to get as complete a tool set as you can get. Engine lift + leveler. 2 jackstands. Floorjack that can lift the frontend of the car.

I'd also have somebody knowledgable on standby to give advice and help.

You might also consider removing the trans, bolting it to the engine, and stabbing both into the car at the same time. It's a lot easier to mate the two pieces out of the car than in it.

Remove the hood. Makes the whole process a lot easier. Use 4 guys to take it off.

Good luck with it.

Re: 390 sawp?

After the swap, keep the old engine. Eventually you will want to sell the car. It will be worth more if the original engine comes with it.
