Cold Air Intake Advice

Hi I bought and installed a cold air intake into my '97 Eclipse Gs about 2 months ago and im kinda nervous about leaving it in now because ive heard stories of water and snow getting through the filter and motors getting ruined. Ive driven through a lot of rain with it already and there were some really big puddles and nothing noticeable happened yet. Im just kinda worried about it ruining anything. I know you can get bypass valves but ive looked at alot of places and couldnt find any. But all the stories ive heard about motors getting ruined or whatever were in all other cars besides Eclipses' , i dont know about anyone else but from what i can tell i dont see how water and stuff can get in it on an Eclipse, it looks like its in such a place where it couldnt. Any advice on anything? Thanks alot

Re: Cold Air Intake Advice

You will be fine.. unless you live in a place where it snows a lot and your car becomes a snowplow (like michigan ) Dont run through puddles reving your engine and you should be fine

Re: Cold Air Intake Advice

yeah man no worries.. if its like most of em and the cone is around where the stock airbox is then i wouldnt worry much. now if its true cold air and goes down to the bottom of the nose u might wanna be a lil more carefull.. but as ashah said.. as long as you arnt hittin 5k in puddles u be good ta go... peace

Re: Cold Air Intake Advice

I'd be careful though...our 99 Galant GTZ has a cold air intake, and it goes ALL the way down, I mean, right down by the front tires just a few inches from the ground... there are usually no extreme weather issues in CA fortunatly, but if there were, Id bet all my money that shit would scoop up everything and enything from the ground... just use some common sense and gauge situations as they come...raining = puddles = drive more carefully etc etc...

Re: Cold Air Intake Advice

Are you serious about the water? You pretty much have to park in a lake to suck in enough water to damage something. If your CAI is going to be in snow while you are driving, it might be part of your winter prep to put a regular intake back on. Is the snow deep enough that it will get behind the bumper?

.....If the filter is mounted close to where the OE filter box was, then you should be fine, unless you drive with no hood while its rainin.....
