my friends 97 eclipse gsx story

this happened awhile back. the car was modified, running about 300+ hp. he wanted to get the take off down on his car, so he decided to do 0-60mph in a big parking lot. it was dark, and the lot was semi wet. i told him that maybe its not a good idea, but he said it was gonna be fine. he revs his engine, and launches off the line really good. he reaches to a little over 70 mph, faster than he intended. then i look ahead of me, and all i could think was, oh shit. there was a big fat curb that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. i hear my friend say, shit....then crunch! both airbags deploy, and theres smoke everywhere. we look at eachother in shock, and ask eachother if our face was ok, like two gay guys. we quickly get out of the car, i jumped out first thinking the car was gonna blow up, like a big pussy. it was the worst night ever, my pants gets caught on something weird while i was getting out, and tears off everything showing my penis, jk. when we got out to look at the car, the car had hit the curb, and jumped to about 30? feet, landing in the middle of an entrance. the whole front bumper was gone, one front tire was flat with the wheel shoved up and back, and looked like a couple more shocks were shot. ive never seen my friend cry so much in my life, jk. amazingly, the car wasnt totaled, and the insurance gave him a little over ten grand to fix it.

anyways, just becareful out there.

Well, he hit a curb at 70+ mph, and both airbags deployed. 10K might even be a low amount.

yea i was really suprised, plus this was 2 yrs ago. i remember him telling me about how the insurance company was debating whether or not to total it. i think it was either buying a stock gsx, or keeping the gsx with all those mods. the insurance wasnt going to pay for all the mods he had. i dont remember every detail, but i think the front bumper was the only thing on the body that really needed replacement. most of the damage was underneath, like shocks, suspension arms, bearings, wheels, cv joints, and the whole fmic system. the fmic itself was worth almost a grand. they also had to check everything on the engine.

Re: my friends 97 eclipse gsx story

a car is considered totalled by most insurance companies if it cost more than half the value of the car to fix it. or something like that

Re: my friends 97 eclipse gsx story

it has to cost at least 75% of the value to fix it in order to be considered "totalled" my infiniti was "totalled" so i got the check for the amount it was worth (5k)

however, that story doesn't seem to feesiable, not one to be skeptical, but only a dumbass would attempt that with the roads slick and going that fast in a parking lot... 2nd, 70mph does not cause a car to flip or launch 30 ft in the air... just doens't happen unless the nitrus in the car faced downwards and propelled it... lol... but i doubt that as well. i dunno, if your truthful, pics. and i'll say "man that sucks, glad your ok"

Re: my friends 97 eclipse gsx story

I would just take all the mods off the old car and buy a new gsx if he got 10 grand to fix it.

Re: my friends 97 eclipse gsx story

ok this doesnt sound all that true to me. . . i see a car hitting a slab of cement at 70MPH and i see a car getting totaled, i mean that would just destroy everything, with an AWD drive train, slamming the front 2 wheels into a curb seems like it would just destroy the entire drivetrain. Trans and all.

Also are you gay? If you are thats fine i really dont care, but please dont fill your post with gay sexual inuendos. Thats just annoying and childish.

Re: my friends 97 eclipse gsx story

its just a curb, i had a friend that hit a curb in his accord, and he had to get brake lines replaced, shocks fixed, the front clip fixed and he only hit it at 15mph, of course he doesn't exactly have insurance ne more but he still drives it plus his rims and tires were screwed but he had the cheapos on and left it in his driveway brake lines leaking all over the place

10k sounds just about right

and i meant jumped to, as in distance on the ground, not going up, your joking right? i also put a question mark after 30, i suck at predicting distance by feet.
