2001 Grand Am - Automatic. My car was running perfect, but decided it was time for an oil change and went to Jiffy Lube. They replaced the oil, air filter and PCV Valve. Before driving a block after the work, I noticed a clunk/jerk as the gears shifted.
Drove it around the block and back to Jiffy Lube. Parked it, and engine light can on. A guy there looked at it quickly, checked the engine code - something about air intake temperature. He reset the engine light, said there was nothing else he could do, and sent me on my way. Of course, before I got home the light was back on, and it was clunking/jerking again, but no sense taking it back there. It really was running perfect before going in, so is there anyway they could have screwed it up "that quickly" that would cause this ? I don't believe they added tranmission fluid - said levels fine - but who knows. Long ago on another car, I remember having something like this happen - when a vacuum hose came off - or something of that sort. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

it most likely is a vaccum hose that came loose. But need to know whether you have the 3.4 v6 or the 2.4 4cyl before i can direct you as to where the problem hose may be

Re: Transmission Clunk- on Oil Change.
Thank you Tom for your quick reply. It's a 3.4 V6.
The good news is I spent about a hour using my highly technical skills of "Jiggling Things" ; Especially sensors & hoses around the air intake; then took it for a drive - first the clunking stopped, and after a couple of stops the "check Engine light went out. Right now seems to be running ok. None the less I would be interested in where the vacuum hose might be, just in case this miracle repair is a temporary thing. Thank you for your time. |
