Air Conditioning Problems on 1996 Camry LE
My A/C stopped working a little while ago. I found some R-134A refill for quite cheap so I decided to refill my A/C unit. I checked with a local mechanic to see if it was the right type first, and he told me it was. However, after filling my A/C back up with it, everytime I turn it on or the heat, a very strong odor comes from the vents with the cold/hot air. The odor disappears after I turn the AC/heat off. Can anyone help me? Did I put the wrong freon in? Thanks

That is the correct type. I have no idea what the smell could be though.

What does the odor smell like?

type of smell
It is very hard to describe what the odor smells like, but I can try. It smells like something burning. I'm not familiar with the smell of antifreeze but I could imagine it is something like this. Also, does freon smell? Sorry for not being much help, I've just never smelled anything that I could compare this too. Thanks for the help.

Antifreeze has a sweet smell, even when hot. Check your AC condensor (sp?). Sometimes they tend to produce a musty-burnt type smell.
