I was told the best way to recharge the a/c of a 93' civic was to buy the retrofit kit, drain the system, and connect the adaptor to the low side. Is this a good way to tear up the system or the proper way to recharge with 134a?

I did it, and cools at 31 degrees
even in the hottest days. I have a 92. makse sure you change all 3 O rings.... I was told to get the green ones, not the black ones. you need about 8 oz of oil in there. There was no way I was going to pay 50 bucks a pound of R12. So now I pay 4 bucks for a can of R134 |

Re: a/c recharging
Is that the proper way to do that though? I know on other cars though, the valve is on the compressor itself. Thats the only way I've ever been shown to recharge an a/c system.

the valves are right there when you open the hood. When you buy the retrofit kit, it just converts both valves and they are also color coded. One is red for high pressure side and blue for low pressure side. they sit right ontop of the ac radiator. They are 2 black caps.

you need to drain the oil, out of the system. and replace o-rings and seals. zIf you do not replace the o-rings and oil, you will have leaks and possibly a compressor failure. the oil for r-12 is not compatible with the r-134 refrigerant and will seperate and cause a lack of lubrication!
