New Cooling Fan?
I need some help. I just replaced my Condenser fan yesterday which should help with my A/C problem. I thought it was going to fix my temp problem in my engine, but it didn't. What is happening is that when I drive, the temperature stays below the middle mark. When stopping at a red light or going through a drive-thru, the temperature goes up pretty high. That fan isn't coming on at all to cool things off. Would anybody advise replacing that fan also? I have a new thermostat and all the fuses are working properly, but that fan just isn't coming on. Is there anyway to test it to see if I really need a new part or if it is something else? Thanks for the help.

Re: New Cooling Fan?
Connecting 12v directly to the fan (unplug it first, of course) will tell you if the fan motor is OK. Another likely culprit is the fan relay. There are a pair of them (one for each fan). Don't know which model you have. but on the '93, they are against the driver's side of the engine compartment, adjacent to the cruise actuator.
HOWEVER! The motor should keep cool with just the radiator fan running. The condenser fan is for A/C efficiency more than anything else. Does the rad fan run? If not --- same diagnostic procedure for that. |
