several problems w/ 3.1
Just finished rebuilding the lower end of a 93 lumina 3.1 with a cam sensor (makes a difference). Now I can not get the 1. lifters to pressurize, 2. check coolant light to go out, 3. idle once it warms up. Don't have a clue what to do. I have checked all vacuum lines, electrical connections, bled the air out of the water lines, changed plugs & wires. what else? HELP

Re: several problems w/ 3.1
Soaked the lifters in oil overnight to get rid of all the air?
The coolant light needs approximately three drive cycles before it will register out okay. That's to prevent an intermittient signal from tripping the light. Does the engine die when warm, or does it hunt for idle? The PCM needs an idle relearn after battery voltage is removed and re-applied, drop into OD and let it sit with the parking brake on for about fifteen minutes. |

The engine willl die when it warms up. I will try the O/D & see if this helps. Thanks.

Re: several problems w/ 3.1
make sure you bleed coolant passages in the upper end using the bleeders at the thermostat housing and transfer tube.

Re: several problems w/ 3.1
I would usually put the lifters in a container of oil and compress them to purge the air and try to prime them before installing. You might be able to do that with a rubber mallet if you take the valve covers off and hit the pushrod side of the rockers while it's running. Works sometimes.
