XM Radio with 2004 head unit
Does anyone know if the GM factory head unit that is capable of receiving an XM radio signal is the same as the head unit you get with a vehicle that is ordered without the XM radio option? Basically I ordered a truck without the XM radio option and now I would like to get the service. The head unit looks identical to my buddies and he had XM installed. I'm wondering if it is as simple as getting an antenna, hooking it into the back of the radio and ordering up the service. If anyone has done such a thing could you please give me a little insight into the process?

Re: XM Radio with 2004 head unit
Yes you can add xm to the factory radio as long as it has the band button. You need 3 things. An XM antenna i recomend the TERK Micro its the smallest xm antenna out there. Also the Pioneer GEXP910XM, and a Soundgate PIOGM1V4 the soundgate product integrates into the factory deck simply plugs in and uses the stock deck to control and display the pioneer unit. I install these all day long its the best working system to add to a STOCK head unit in any of the chevys. Otherwise a cheaper route would be to simply add a TERK XM commander and if you got the center console you flush mount the unit into the top pocket. I have pictures of one if youd like to check it out.

Kevin, I would love to see pictures of the XM commander flush mounted in the console. Please post or PM me with a link of pics.

I would to get this for my 2004 Tahoe. It has a band button. What would be the estimated cost of making this happen? Why isn't this being talked about as an option rather than getting the added unit. thanks alot Karl |
