Door issues
The passenger side front door on my '89 Bonneville is broken. It won't open. The handles feel really loose when you pull on them, so I suspect I need to replace a latch or lever or something. But, how do I take the panel off if I can't open the door? Or, how do I open the door while not being able to use the door handles?
Thanks .

Re: Door issues
Congradulations and welcome to the Late 80's Bonneville Owners Club.
Non functioning doors is part of the territory. My '88 has had both rear doors and the driver's doo alternatly seize up on me. A thorough soaking down of the inside of the door with WD 40 helped. Just put the little red tube down the outside of the window between the glass and the black rubber flap and spray away, then try to lock and unlock the door repeatedly. If you are lucky, it may open. Be thankful that the right front window still goes up and down. Every '88 bonne I have seen has the window popping out of the track and falling down, due to a manufacturing defect. |

I just found this forum and wanted to help anyone else that has had the same problem. My 89 Bonneville had this happen to 3 of the 4 four doors at the same time and I was forced to figure out the problem and fix it before the driver door decided to quit working. It turned out the be the cam assembly on the door handle push button that attaches to the linkage arm to the latch assembly. They moved freely after a good spraying with silicone. The hard part is getting to this linkage with the door locked. Send me an e-mail and I will go into all the details. It only cost me two scraped fingers to repair plus many hours of frustration before I figured it out. Just want to share with others and wish I could have had some help months ago.
