no oil pressure on 97 se bonneville

My 97 Bonneville SE has lost all oil pressure. Wife was on the way home and stopped at the store, when she tried to start the car, nothing. I had replaced the battery, I now had power, but the engine was still not able to turn over. I had dealer look at engine, they replaced spark plugs and were able to get the car started, but there was no oil pressure, dealer said a new engine was more than likely needed. Any other suggestions, dealer option worth more than car is worth. Just a note, no oil warning lights or low guage according to the wife.

Re: no oil pressure on 97 se bonneville

Change the oil pressure sensor/sending unit which is usually located above the oil filter. If you got no warning light and the engine didn't seize up, you should be able to salvage it. Second, you can also change the oil pump by dropping the oil pan and replacing only the pump, a lot of work but far less expensive than a new engine. This may cure the problem entirely. Try the sending unit first, if there is still no pressure, then replace the pump. If the dealer was able to get the engine started then they should be able to fix the oil pressure problem. Good Luck!
