If your one of those people who just constantly blast their speakers everyday, loud as they can go, then yes. But regardless, stock's don't tend to stay in good shape for long. Look for a good pair of brand names. I'm not saying you have to get the most dam expensive things out there. A good pair of Pioneers, kenwoods, Panasonic's or even blaupunkt will do it.

Re: To those who have a sound system....

I have a sub in the back of my car with stock speakers. I like the sound. But I keep mine relatively low. If you're going to BLAST it, it's gonna sound like ass with stock speakers. Also don't amplify them, they'll blow. I would recommend Kenwood personally. My friend had some in his explorer and they were clear as hell as well as VERY loud.

i've messed with car audio sense i was like 14 and i can tell u its all about personal preferance on sound, after that its just about money. how much u want to spend on it. u can have a full system that sound very respectable for about $500 or u can have a crazy assed system from $1000-up depends on what u like, like me im good with better highs and mids and then like one W.0. 10in. woofer. so yeah i would really change the stock speakers!

WTF? a speaker, stock or aftermarket, will only blow if you stray far outside it's power/frequency limitations. Typically, external amplifiers, properly installed, will provide a cleaner and crisper sound to any speaker. An aftermarket speaker normally WILL sound better then a stock speaker- cone construction and being 2- or 3- way speakers contribute to that.

But yeah, the best thing is to do what sounds best to you. I've got an aftermarket HU and 6x9s in the rear, stock speakers in the front, and an 8" subwoofer in a sealed box, and i like it just fine. I'll be replacing the front speakers with aftermarket component speakers to give me better stereo imaging soon, though.

I wouldnt run a sub without an amp. Underpowering a sub is also bad for it and can damage your deck also. The sub is trying to pull more sound that the deck can supply. I have 4 sony x-plod's. They are LOUD! They have no bass. They were not meant for that. I can turn up my volume to the max and the speakers sound VERY crisp. Now, I also have a 12" pioneer sub with 800 Watt amp. The sub provides the hard pounding bass. Loud speakers plus 12" or any sub = nice sound. My GF loves to turn up my music so other cars can feel it and so fourth. Me, I listen to it to where I can hear and feel it a lil, not for others to feel. I'm weird like that lol. Here are some pics

JVC MP3 deck (Nothing special, but its nice to have cd's that hold over 200 songs

My sony x-plod with the cover taken off for the pic

Cover on

x-plod's in the back

closer look

12" Pioneer sub with 800W amp. I lower my back seats when I want the bass to pound all over me (vibrate hehe)

I still need to find a location for this amp and also need to bolt this speaker down because it slides when I hit hard speed bumps or turn FAST lol

sageuvagony: dude, nice setup. You're totally right about the regular speakers not putting out massive bass, and not being made for it. :P And tell you're girlfriend that SHE'S the wierd one for wanting to annoy other people with music that they probably don't want to hear I would definitly get that sub fastened down soon... you can kill things quite quickly by letting them bounce around.

Re: To those who have a sound system....

i would never hook up a sud without an amp. it would be a huge wast of time. also if your not worried about the extra weight in the trunk, put some sound proofing stuff in there. i just did and it stops almost all the rattling. it added about 45-60 lbs to the trunk though. my cars not fast so im not worried about it.
also im not a big fan of the sony x-plod
but if you like then thats up to you

Good point on not hooking up a sub without a amp. I got 4 6.5 Soundstorm's with 4' Titanium tweeters custom molded into door and I got 2 6x9's in the rear doors (i gotta sedan) and I have 2 Kicker L5s in the back with my own designed box with a lanzar 1600 Vibe amp powring them....and no need to use a amp on ur interior speakers unless ur running more than 4 or just more than 100 watts rms a speakers.

My amp with subs and some neon for looks.

My neon and Panasonic Faceplate on at night. all neon is sound activated.

My interior when i was doing custom paint but if u look to the right u can see my Sound Storms.

All of my stuff is done by me and my dad. Took like a week and a half to do box me and him upolstered it he re-did all the carpet in the trunk to match. Hope you like and gives u a better idea.
