Cool J30 with 274,000 mi !

Hi I'm new to this so bear with me. In Nov. of 2003 I bought a '95 j30 for $2100 . it had 272,000 mi. the car is in great condition and i have the maitenance records which are all from the dealer in Nashville. about a month ago i noticed the lifters ticking like it was low on oil, but it was full. my mechanic said that it could possibly be a weak oil pump even though the oil light did not come on. (the light does work). the pump was about $500 and fixed the problem. I just wanted to pass this along to others who might be approaching this amount of mileage.

Any other major problems I might be facing with comming mileage?

New timing belt every 60K miles, that's gonna be expensive...
Does engine valve gets bent when it goes?

Yes, you would likely break valves. Engine has a knock sensor that retards timing, but if it slips too much, bad things would touch each other!

kevlar timing belt?

I also heard that the Infiniti timing belts are kevlar belts?

Is this true? How much does it cost from the dealer (I am assuming that this is dealer only item...)

Is there a internet dealer that gives us a price break?

Please advise as I am new to Infiniti cars...

Dan

The Kevlar timing belts were OEM for 1995+ J30s. However, any car that has had a timing belt replaced since 95 should have gotten the upgraded Kevlar belt.

The replacement schedule for non-kevlar timing belts is every 60K miles.
For Kevlar belt, every 105K miles.
