Hood Help !!!
Does anybody have any clues as to how i can get this hood to flatten out. Its raised on the rear left and front right. Noticed it today after sanding the whole body ready for painting. Its really pissing me off beacause the kit was very expensive.
Would really appreciate any tips any of you may have on this one. Thanks, Mike ![]() ![]()

Re: Hood Help !!!
uhm, soak it in warm water and carefully un-warp it? i've heard of people doing that with bodies, it should work with just a hood too, no?

Would that be warmish water or hottish water !!! Damn Revell kits, why do we pay an arm and a leg for warped kits, this thing (Revell BMW 850i) cost me 40 USD !!! Thanks again, Mike

Usually go for water that is heading towards being quite hot - about as much heat as you can stand on your fingers. Soak it for a little while until it becomes noticably more pliable, bend it, and then dunk it in cold water (have a tub of it on standby). When you bend it you will have to bend it past where you want to go as it will spring back slightly when it cools. Some experimentation with a scrap piece of plastic might be the go. I actully used this method to straighten a very badly warped body - worked but it did take a little while. Hope this helps. Craig

Is that a hood off the Revel Premium BMW 850i by any chance?. If it is then i've had two of them and they both had warped hoods, I assume a fault somewhere in the moulding process. To get back to your question I used the hot and cold water treatment with them both with good success, just be carefull.

Re: Hood Help !!!
Well, I should have learn that trick years ago... I once bought a Revell Ford F100 Harley Davidson delivery panel truck that was so bad that the curve in the body (which was a big part) was near 40° !!!
I just tried to heat it with a butane torch !!! What a Newbie I was back then !!! |
