car won't start

i have a 92 honda accord ex. And i've recently been having trouble starting the car sometimes. It starts out, sputters quickly, then dies...and it won't turn on for sometimes up to 3 or 4 hours...It turns on eventually, but it's getting on my nerves. They told me it was the fuel pump, so i bought the damn thing and installed it..200 dollars..and the car does the same damn thing. What could it be u guys?? anyone have anything similar??? another person told me it was the fuel filter (which im not sure was replaced with the pump). any help would be great.

started at the pump is a good thing, expensive but good. check your slip you got and see if they added fuel filter to it. if not go over and ask them. who knows what theyll say. is this the first time replacing the filter? injector cleaner been put in previously? check and see if you battery is fully charged. distributor? distributor cap? oh yea one more thing...........is there gas in the tank? :bandit:

Its the ignition module!!! in the heat if the module is bad it doesn't work properly and makes the car not start.... I had the same problem so I put a MSD module and a blaster 3 coil.... and put it under the passenger seat ..... I don't have that problem any more!!! just for the heck of it the next time it won't start and you are at home go in the house and fill a bag with ice and lay it on the distributor for a few minutes and then try to start it.... Thats what I started doing if it was really bad and park in the shade.... and also if it won't start open the hood so it can cool off.... and if it fires even once floor the gas and it will stay running then I had to do that for about 3 months!!! but like I said not any more!!

wire light on the fuel pump hot wire, it1ll tell you whether it`s the pump or relay, maybe even invest in a fuel pressure guage that attaches to the filter, easy to install and can insure it`s a fuel problem.

hey guys, i just recently swapped a H22 into my accord. i just finished last night. the car started up good and everything, but this morning when i went to go start it again, it wouldnt start, it cranks and sounds like its going to start, but its not. also when i was looking for missing wires or sensors, i found that there was 2 vaccum lines not plugged in. they go to the EGR control solinoid, i dont know where its at, and i dont think it came with the motor. so iam thinking of plugging vaccum line #16 to the control box, becasue its for the EGR valve. also vaccum line 24, i dont know where to put it at, but i know that its suppose to go to the EGR control solinoid, and thats where vaccum line #16 goes too. anyone think they can help me solve this problem, thanks...

Krissy, when you say it does not start. Does the engine crank? not crank? It could be the alarm if you turn the key and you get nothing. But it also could be a bad battery, battery cables or loose cables. If your car cranks but does not start it could be the starter or another electrical problem or fuel. What exactly does it do when you turn the key?

I have simular problem. Starts sometime and runs perfect and other times engine just turns over and over but no fire or fuel. I have researched it for 2 days and with the 1992, 98% of the people say the same thing, the main relay also known as the main or fuel relay. It is a very common problem with that model. They start to go bad with age and the heat, especailly in the summer. The solder joints start to expand and loose their connections. It's known as a cold solder joint. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I will be changing mine tonight. They don't cost much and are easy to replace I'm told. The manual will tell how to test plus I read you can actually inspect the solder joints. Good luck. ( to me to haha)

Me too

I've recently relocated to Texas from Minnesota and am having the same troubles. A friend saw a cable was worn and may be shorting out. Since then if the car won't start I'll turn the cable away form where it was rubbing and it starts. I'm going to be doing the timing belt soon and will probably have cables replaced too.

Re: car won't start

what does your tach do, if i t jumps around before stalling it could be your distributor, next time when you cannot get it to start tap the distributor lightly but firmly and try again if it starts right away you might need to replace the distributor
