oil in my water ? what could it be
hi i have a 1990 eclipse 2.0 turbo. when i start it up oil goes into my coolant. there is alot of pressure in a matter of seconds oil and water come out of my radiator cap into my overfill tank. almost all of the oil from the crankcase goes into the coolant. After i shut it off oil/coolant goes back into my crankcase. what could it be? a headgasket or is it possible its coming from my turbo? there seems to be no water in my cyclinders all plugs are firing fine.?????????????? can someone help me?

Re: oil in my water ? what could it be
no... not for it to mix that drastically at least! go feel your turbine on the intake side of the turbo... is it loose/shaft play? is there oil/water in the intercooler/intercooler piping? or the exhaust? i need more info before i can gaurantee anything

Re: oil in my water ? what could it be
well cool man thanks for the info i know about cars and stuff just was leary about the turbo havent really worled on them much and its way different from my 91 eclipse 1.8 and i didnt want to go in the wrong direction and replace the head gasket if it wasnt the head gasket but still time to have the head planed and pressured check and the valves resurfaced whil its apart this will be the first time a head gasket blew on me and it wasnt in the chamber never thought it was possible untill you reallly think about thanks a million dude

You really arent 100% sure, Or atleast you shouldn't be. I would first check my oil filter housing. Those are known to crack inside, mising coolant and oil together. A slight over tightening can cause this. It happens more often then you think too. Then check the head gasket. I'd start off by running a compression test just for kicks. It's good to know these numbers before digging into your motor. Lets hope its just the filterhousing. |

The seals in the turbo would only prevent oil from leaking into the intake or exhaust side. Nothing more. The oil and coolant channels are seperated by 1/8 -1/16 inch cast. You're not mixing it up in there. How hot did you car get? How long from a cold start will it take to fire up? |

Re: oil in my water ? what could it be
Im both of those guys. ARRRRRGGG MATTIE! Arrrrg!
Anyways, your oil filter housing has a series of fins and channels ran through it. Kind of like a george forman grill and a britta waterfilter. No wait, thats no good. Disregard. While oil flows through the filterhousing, thru the filter and into the block it gets cooled as you go. Now that you say the car has sat for four years, which you should have mentioned in the first place its most likely the HG. Four years is along time for a car to sit and not be maintained. What did you do to the car before you started it? |
