Remove Catalyic Converter???

Hello All,
Sorry about my spelling of "Catalyic" if it's wrong.
Sometime ago when I posted a question about why my 1990 BMW 735i was consuming too much gas, I received an advise that by removing the converter will help to conserve fuel consumption.
IS IT TRUE THAT REMOVING THE CATALYIC CONVERTER WILL CONSERVE FUEL CONSUMPTION?
What are the implications of removing this converter?
What are the advantages also?
Pls. advise before I remove it.

As always, thanks a bunch to you all out-there!

Re: Remove Catalyic Converter???

Well Im not 100% sure on the gas milage increse so Im not going to answer that and give you the wrong info.
For the other stuff:
Implications:You cant pass inspection with out one.

Advantages: you get better performance because theres more flow through the exaust. The cat isnt blocking the flow there for you get better performance. My muffler fell off on my benz so it was headders, some pipe, and a cat. I could feel that the car had more tourqe when it came off and it was much more responsive.

You could take the cat out and bust out all thet stuff inside and replace just the hallo out cat. The stuff inside is brittle so a screwdriver would do the trick.

without reviewing your past posting, some 'thoughts'
a] how bad is the ACTUAL fuel milage ?
b] it will never be a Prius [or a pinto for that matter].
c] when was your last COMPLETE tune-up ?

depends where you live

I didnt bother to look at your profile, mostly because I havent figured out how to do that yet, but If you live in a state that doesnt require a catalyst test then by all means I say bust all the honeycombs out of that cat and drive on! I have done it before in an old toyota and it ran a lot stronger afterwards. But It will never pass a catalyst test without it. It could possibly be slightly clogged. I mentioned the honeycombs. Just take an air hose and try to blow some of that crap out of there, if that doesnt work, then take a putty knife and scrape off a little from the top and be careful to keep it as even as possible. This way you can remove the blockage and still pass inspection. This worked for the toyota, I dont see why it wouldnt for a bmw.
