98 Grand caravan SE. Overhead Compass/Thermometer

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan SE. But it didn't come with the overhead electronic compass/thermometer option. Could one be installed easily? For example Is it already prewired for one? The black plastic cover in the spot where it would have been installed looks like it would come off fairly easily. Thanx.

Overhead for 98

There is one main philips screw that holds up the overhead located in the rear compartment and a locking tab in the front compartment that allows you to lower the overhead down so you can check for the plug you'll need to plug into if the van is prewired for this. I did this on my van and spent $50.00 for the overhead computer (ebay)and about $25.00(dealer) for the outside temp sensor and it works just fine. You will need to set the compass which should be explained in your owners manual.

Good luck,

Thanx. Did you install all of the stuff yourself or did you have a mechanic do the work? If you did it yourself was it fairly easy?

Re: 98 Grand caravan SE. Overhead Compass/Thermometer

If I can do it, anyone can do it. If the van is prewired for the overhead computer there will be a square red plug. If it doesn't, I wouldn't waste my time but there are earlier post that some have talked about. The Ambient sensor plugs into a plug in front of the radiator just behind the lower bumper or fasia.

Good luck,
