start w/o clutch
what wire do you disconnect to allow the car(gsx) to be started without using the clutch. i looked and couldnt see any wire or sensor that seemed to be directly connected to the clutch but i did see a green and black wire in a big WHITE harness. the write up said to look for a green and black wire but i just wanted to make sure. before i start disconnecting stuff.

Re: start w/o clutch
y do u want it to start with outthe clutch?
even if u did find out how to disconnect it ,it still wouldnt start and u would reck ur starter. there would be too much friction on the motor with it trying to turn itself and the clutch. correct me if im wrong

Re: start w/o clutch
You absolutely positively do NOT want to have the clutch in when you are cranking the car. There is no oil flow to lubricate the thrust bearing. On a 7 bolt especially, disable the clutch start safety switch. I have a toggle switch on mine, since the track DOES requrie that its in working order. My local track is very strict about safety
![]() On both 1Gs and 2Gs, there are 2 switches on the clutch. One at the "bottom," or when the clutch is to the floor. That is the clutch start safety switch, and its the one you want to disconnect. Simply follow the wires to the connector, and unplug it. Its a pain in the ass upside down on the floor, but it will all make sense once you get an eyeball on it. And FYI, the other switch, at the "top" of the clutches travel, is to deactivate the cruise control as soon as you touch the clutch pedal. The two connectors arent very far apart, and its easy to mix them up.

Re: start w/o clutch
There is actually a video on how to do this, and where the plug is. There are plenty of pictures too, on DSMtuners. It's a white plug above and to the left of the clutch pedal.
On another note, don't make total guess answers. If nobody answered this question right, they might have missed one of the most important steps to prevent crankwalk and bearing wear. |

Re: start w/o clutch
So for the last 70,000 miles I have been starting my car wrong. You guys recommend unhooking the sensor and starting the car in neutral with the clutch out???

Ok so i did that now everytime i park i have to leave it in neutral before i turn my engine off and stuff? That will prevent wear on it? What if by some slim chance your e-break fails and your car rolls down the street.
How would you make a sensor to set off an alarm when your car is rolling so you can go catch it? lol |

Re: start w/o clutch
no only when you start it up put it in neutral. when it is off or you stop you can put it in whatever gear you want, just be sure to drop it in neutral when you start it or you will drive straight thru the garage like i did when i was 10 and didn't know too much about how cars work

Re: start w/o clutch
Most people find the habit of stepping on the clutch to start the car hard to break. What I suggest is modify that habit just slightly, put your foot hard on the brake pedal everytime you start teh car instead. The car will NOT move by the starter with the brake applied. It might jump a few inches, but it isnt going too far.
As with anything else, safety first.A guy at a local track accidentally started the race gas (had no nuetral start switch) and killed his duaghter. That is why my track now requires it. We want to rpevent crankwalk, but we dont want anyone to get hurt either. Jsut get int he habit of using the brake pedal, AND putting it in nuetral before starting.
