This is my first real post here and I've got a couple of questions. I've been checking out all the forums and I just can't find the answers I'm looking for, so I'm sorry if I passed it over.
#1-There is a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust(which I would take as a header problem)except when I checked my muffler there was a lot of oil on it,would this still probably be the problem, or could it be something more? #2-My AC kicks on but the air that comes out is either just slightly colder or not cold at all,I checked the freon levels and thats fine and the compressor does kick on when I press the button,I've heared that there is a A/C coil that does something to make the air cold(is that right?) any ideas would be great #3-When I hit the brakes medimuish~hard the car kinda rumbles almost like you're going over small speed bumps but with light pressure nothing happens,I was reading (in the haynes book) that it might be that the brakes are getting wore uneven, but they all look about the same when I checked them, so whats going on? Well those are my main questions for the moment, if it helps any the car is a 95' eclipse rs, w/auto trans. and about 100k on it. Oh also I was looking into putting a monitor into my passenger airbag(blown anyways), and I was wondering how you would hook it up to the car and a ps2(hardwired preferably, but whatever works is good as long as its not too expensive). Thanks in advance for all your replies(hopefully I get some )

Re: First Post and I've got a couple questions
1) White smoke indicates coolant in your exhaust. If the white smoke persists while driving, it is probably your head gasket, unassociated with headers. Was the oil INSIDE or OUTSIDE your muffler? Was it coming out where the exhaust comes out or dripping down the outside of the pipe?
2) I know little about AC because mine works great : If you've bought this car recently, make sure you press the round button with the snowflake in addition to the temp. and fan level, but that's all the wisdom I have to share ![]() 3) Maybe you have a warped rotor? Have the car looked at for diagnosis. Welcome to AF

For some reason I said headers(meant head gasket) anyways the oil was inside of the exhaust, wasnt the usual smog looking stuff, but was actually wet oil(I stuck my hand inside, which burnt like hell). Anyways, its got a decent size exhaust on it so its kinda got a lip that would hold the oil in before it fell out. but there was enough oil to come rolling out if the lip wasnt there. Whats a head gasket usually run, or is it fixable?

Re: First Post and I've got a couple questions
Are you sure that the coolant going through you exhaust (If it is a head gasket), isn't making the insided of the exhaust wet?? That would make the soot/carbon in the exhaust "gooey" and it might seem like oil?? I agree with the joe on the warped rotor.

Re: First Post and I've got a couple questions
gaskets arent really expensive, but the work u have to do will kill you. it be better if u DIY. cuz if you go to a dealer they be talkin about prices in the 700ish when i called.

Re: First Post and I've got a couple questions
1. You may diagnose a burning coolant problem, but you won't be able to fix it. Since you'll be bringing it to a mechanic to FIX it, just let them figure out what it is instead of us guessing.
2. Mechanic. ![]() 3. Warped rotors is pretty common, I have at least one. Rotors aren't that expensive used, but I'll be going to bigger brakes when I do something with it. |
