97 Jetta won't start, I have spark though

My wife has a 97 Jetta GL 2.0 Automatic. We went away on vacation, and live in CT where it has rained heavily for over a week now. When we got back, it wouldn't start. It turns over but won't fire. It does spark, and there's good fuel pressure. So, could this be a fuel injector issue, or something else. Please help. Thanks

Re: 97 Jetta won't start, I have spark though

You're geting sparks at the spark plug wire when disconnected from the plug? The ignition coil is known for arcing to ground in wet conditions. If you're feeling lucky grab it near where the wire to the distributor plugs in while cranking. However, I'd suggest spraying some water on it to see if you can see sparks jumping across. How do you know the fuel pressure is correct?

Re: 97 Jetta won't start, I have spark though

I had a somewhat similar problem with my 97 2.0 manual as well. It only did it when it rained though. I couldnt drive any faster than 25-35 mph in heavy rains or else it would stall and wouldnt start for awhile. I would have to keep the clutch in and keep the car at 3ooo rpms at red lights and such to keep it running cuz i could hear that it was bogging down and i didnt want to be stuck there. I believed the problem to be that my airbox was flooding due to water splashing and large puddles and it would take it awhile to come out. hopefully this helps if not im sorry
