Clutch!!!

Big Question (dont answer if u dont want to)...Well currently i have a jdm sohc vtec and im playing on running a major turbo setup in a couple of months or so, but im thinking of changing my clutch right now cause the one i have isn't grabbing to my liking...i currently have an ACT street and strip and it grabs yes but its not aggresive enough for me...so im thinking for the future i might just go ahead and get an ACT six puck with lightweight flywheel...however i hear that the six pucks are "too" aggressive (for some people) now basically my question is WHICH IS THE BEST CLUTCH SETUP FOR A STREET CAR AND WHY???

i can't answer your big question, but i do have a couple of things for you to keep in mind- a more aggressive racing clutch requires more foot pressure to operate, making it hell in stop-and-go traffic, or on local streets. also, a lighter flywheel will make your car work harder (and get worse gas milage) during sustained highway driving (trips, etc...) just something to keep in mind as you build.

the flywheel weighing less while you are on the highway at a steady speed is going to make you get less gas mileage? how do you figure that?

Re: Clutch!!!

as for the foot pressure i can understand but thw gas mileage bit doesnt make sense...but i also heard that a lightweight flywheel makes u lose high end speed as well (less weight less momentum or something like that)...???

correct me if my line of thinking is just fk'd here, but as far as i know, a flywheel on a car is the same thing as a flywheel on a tractor, right? it adds momentum to the engine spinning, to help even out small drags and boosts in the engine's load. on a car on the highway, a flywheel helps make up for minor things, like sidewinds, and drafts from other cars/trucks on the highway, so the engine doesn't have to work as hard to maintain a steady speed. with a lighter flywheel, the engine now has to work harder to maintain a given speed- and that burns extra gas. this should also translate to more work and fatigue for the driver (especially if you have no cruise control) because it requires more footwork to keep the car going at the same speed.

the payoff is mostly in the low end (where most imports need help anyway). because the flywheel is lighter, there is less mass for the car's engine to get up to speed, and so you get better acceleration.

but a launch is much better with a heavier flywheel... Damn type of thing sucks! Just stay with stock lol. I could imagine a super super light 1 pound flywheel revving for a launch, and as you drop the clutch, the car stalls... (ehh I doubt it'd happen.. im just bored)
