I have a 94 S-10 Blazer 4.3 V6/CPI, about 125,000 miles. Last week took it out for 300 miles or so, fueled up, headed home, then it died when I stopped to make a turn. For a few weeks it would take about 10 seconds to start, rough idle, but ran good after a few minutes. After it died, dad looked into it and found a few probs. First of all the plugs were wet, truck was harder to start, and continued to die at a stop. Changed fuel filter, plugs (not plug wires), found gas inlet line leaking into CPI, fixed that...still got problems. He's doing work, so forgive my lack of knowledge describing this, but today we went on suggestions of others to buy the $270 CPI and replace it. Well, that didn't work either, new CPI wasn't the prob, even though I was told it's common for them to go bad. Anyway, what can I do now? I'm no mechanic, but would the plug wires be an issue, also fuel pump pressure is okay, what's left? This is just a run around truck, but I hate to junk it out or pay a fortune at some garage, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Re: 94 S-10 Blazer--wet plugs, won't idle, dies...NEW CPI
Hi, FFJ:
My opinion is that could be a timming failure, probably the time chain and respective sprockets has been changed, this problem can be checked and fixed for you, if you has enough time and tools and some manual repair (i.e Chiltonīs) this chain is located front of the motor behind de water pump, there exist some marks on the sprockets and should be placed in correct position; this problems ocurres when chains is to loose for normal use or the engine has been exposed to high rpm regime. Normally you only needs to pay for some gaskets and labour, there exist a some procedures to check this condition checking the distributor. |
