$600 92' Laser- Good deal?

Hey everyone. I'm more of a honda guy (91' CRX), but I have been slightly considering something else for a while..and 1g DSM's have been something I've been considering. A guy I work with (I'm actually his manager), has had a 92' Laser for a bit over a year, and said he's had a lot of problems with it, but this guy is not the most reliable employee, so I kind of wonder exactly how much trouble he's had. Irregardless...his tranny went out from what he tells me, and he is not into working on cars, so I half jokingly said "how much?". He said "eh, $600 would be cool". Without a doubt, I'm assuming it needs a tranny before it goes anywhere (I haven't looked at it). I also am not sure of the model (he isn't either, so I assume it's the base model). I would like to get somewhere in the 14's in the quartermile if I were to get this..is that reasonable, even if it's the base model 1.8L?

I figure if I were to get it, it'd need to be turbocharged a fairly good amount (or nitrous) to reach those kind of numbers. Anyways, would $600 for this be a fairly good deal? The body/interior looks fair, and even though he has complaints about it mechanically, I wonder if it'd be worth a shot. Any thoughts? I'm not super knowledgeable on this DSM, so I figure I'd ask some more knowledgeable people in this area. Take it easy, I appreciate it...

-Mike

Check out the Eclipse forums.

I think you might regret purchasing a 1.8, even at that price.
