emission tests?

I recently found out that the town i live in is trying to pass an emissions test law. If so, i have been told by some of my family that i will have to put a muffler on my car. Is this true or will my car pass the emissions test without a muffler?

Re: emission tests?

i don't have a muffler cause my car sounds so great without a muffler...when i got my car i took it to a muffler shop and told them i wanted my muffler cut off and they cut it off and welded me a new pipe to the back and a chrome tip on the end of it.

Re: emission tests?

i have always thought that the muffler just controlled sound and not the emissions so why would i need a muffler?

Re: emission tests?

if u have a 4 cylinder I don't care how much YOU think it sounds great it doesnt...I have heard plenty of cavaliers without mufflers including mine right after i hacked the stock exhaust off to put my catback on and it would definitly piss off everyone in my neighborhood...to each his own i guess

Re: emission tests?

i agree with studballs, you should put a muffler on you may think it sounds good but it doesn't and you'll realize that if you get a good muffler you'll realize how much better it will sound

get a full catback performance exhaust system - it will sound much deeper and throaty than straight pipes for a 4 cyl. I went with borla and it sounds so much better. If you have emissions, you'll also have to put on a cat converter if u dont already have one.

Re: emission tests?

It won't pass the VET because "Noise Pollution" counts in emission laws. The don't test your muffler, but it's manditory to have one under that law.

I'm surprised a shop did that for you. They could easily get fined for it.
