K&N Air Filter

A co-worker advised me against using the K&N air filter due to the theory of oil coating the sensors and in turn causing false readings. My questions are:

1) How many out there are using these and for how long?

2) What is involved in cleaning and re-oiling? (how is it done)

3) Anyone out there ever have any problems with the K&N filters?

4) Not sure how credible the research was I read but it stated the K&N filters do not trap much contaminates compared to other filters. Any comments?

5) Anyone have any experiance with the foam type filters?

Ken

Millions of people are using oiled filters..... I have used one on my truck with a Sillen Air Intake for 110,000 miles.

Cleaning is very easy. K&N makes a "recharge" kit where you simply take the filter out.. spray with a degreaser to break-up and remove the old oil and contaminates.. wash with hot water.... let dry... and apply new oil.. looks and preforms as good as new.

3) Anyone out there ever have any problems with the K&N filters?
I have yet to every hear of anyone having problems caused by an oil filter. I have sold and installed hundreds of these.

4) Not sure how credible the research was I read but it stated the K&N filters do not trap much contaminates compared to other filters. Any comments?
If you have could look at mine.... I drive on dirt roads alot and so I tend to clean my filter more than every 100,000 miles like recommended. If you looked at my filter you would have a hard time convincing me that that don't trap the same or more.

5) Anyone have any experiance with the foam type filters? I was brought samples from the sales rep and after looking at the cross section of the foam I am not really sure that I trust their reliablilty in my vehicles. I am sure others are going to disagree, but that is just MY OPINION!!!!

Re: K&N Air Filter

K&N is a reliable product, having it on multiple vehicles myself, its only been a benefit, not a boon.

Re: K&N Air Filter

The main problem with kn filters causing sensor problems is from over oiling them. And yes it is true that they will ruin a maf sensor.

Just don't over oil them.

Thanks all! So in a nutshell, don't be a dumb ass and everything should be okay. I think I'll end up getting one.
Thanks again,
Ken
