Missing Screw=Antifreeze?
My 3.1 '96 Bad Am Gangsta Tilt-(Grand Am GT)-has just recently developed a nagging little problem of dumping puddles of antifreeze under the passenger front. Thing is, it hasn't overheated, doesn't smoke, or doesn't leak while running...it just pukes it out after an undedermined amount of time sitting. I shut it off, I get bored of watching it and when i return, puddle!! So here's what i need from someone. I noticed a hole at the very bottom of the inner fender that's wet with antifreeze...is there supposed to be a screw or bolt in that hole? can some one check so i don't get arrested trying to find a bad am in a parking lot and check behind it's tire. It's seriously the only thing i can think of as to where the juice is comming from...PLEASE HELP
thanks. |

Re: Missing Screw=Antifreeze?
wanna know if a screw/bolt goes there without looking up other grand am's skirts, stick your finger in there and feel for threads. No threads typically means no screw/bolt.
Without really looking the hole I think you see is a drain hole and one of your hoses or maybe even the heater core is draining on to the body and down into and out the hole. Just my theory. |

Re: Missing Screw=Antifreeze?
Are you over filling the coolant overflow reservoir?
There should be a line on the side that shows how much to put in when the engine is cold. The hole in the inner fender is most likely a drain hole for the overflow hose coming from the reservoir.Flow the small hose coming off it to see where it goes. |

Re: Missing Screw=Antifreeze?
you have one of two problems. The water pump weep hole has started to leak or your heater core is leaking and it's coming out the heater box drain. When a water pump starts to go, it will only leak after you shu the car off and let it set. The cooling system is under pressure, and when it finds a weak spot, it will purge coolant there. As it gets worse, the leak will continue when the car is running. Check for two small holes in the water pump housing, known as weep holes, and see if you see coolant coming from either one. If you do, then you need a water pump. If not you may have a heater core leak, but you will normally smell a sweet smell in the car and the windows will fog when they leak bad enough to puke on the ground from the drain.
