Hi, new to this forum.
I am running about 180-210+ F transmission temp with Royal Purple fluid in the tranny. This is too hot, correct? Who makes the best cooler for my application? Trans was rebuilt after a "meltdown" a couple of years ago. It now has about 25,000 on it. I recently added a trans temp gauge and was horrified with the temp. I understand 180 is fine, but it climbs very fast when not running on the highway and in traffic. I have seen temps (according to my guage) upwards of 220 degrees, and I don't tow! Any ideas, or am I being paranoid? I recently switched to R.P. fluid. I flushed out the dino with 14 quarts of R.P. BTW, my engine is "hopped up" and runs anywhere from 180 to 195 degrees F. I have a 180 degree stat. |

Re: 94 trans cooler recomendations
That is a bit too hot. There are several reputable cooler manufacturers, just use the largest cooler that will fit. Don't scrimp on size. Look for the ones intended for motorhome chassis, if there is enough room to fit.
Also, very important, make sure the trans fluid flows to the stock radiator cooler FIRST then to the new cooler second. |

Re: 94 trans cooler recomendations
well the only other thing you have to look at is where you live if you run your vehicle in the winter where it drops down below freezing a too big of a tranny cooler will cause problems too

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I need to do something. I do live in Minnesota, but this vehicle doesn't get run in the winter often. I guess you could say it is on a "low sodium diet" (road salt is deadly here) I do have problems with the engine running a bit warm on hot days in traffic with the a/c running too. With the added restriction of air from the trans cooler may make this issue larger. I am looking into electric fans also, but they are not cheap. $400 Plus, with all the other electronic toys I've added a high amp alt may be on order too! Geez, what a money pit these "toys" can be! Oh, well. It is better than spending all my money in a bar or at Pottery Barn. |
