On 1.0 Liter engines, remove the air cleaner assembly and hose as necessary to access the throttle position sensor, which is mounted under the throttle body on the passenger's side of the car. Disconnect the electrical connector, and insert a 0.012 inch feeler gauge in between the throttle lever and throttle stop screw (that's the thing on the driver's side of the throttle body that is connected to the accelerator cable. It allows a mechanic to rev the engine from under the hood.). Connect a multimeter to the two bottom electrical connectors inside the TPS. Loosen the two mounting screws and rotate the TPS fully clockwise, then slowly counterclockwise until your multimeter reads 0 ohms (full conductivity). Tighten the two mounting screws to 18 in. lbs. Now, insert a 0.035 inch feeler gauge in between the throttle stop screw and the throttle lever. Check multimeter. It should now indicate no conductivity. If, with the 0.035 inch feeler gauge in place, there is no resistance following adjustment, then your TPS has been successfully adjusted.
