Which Gear ?

I run a 1993 GLX 2.3l dual port fi at my local 1/2 mile asphalt circle track, it is a stock class no mods allowed. My problem is in the turns if I shift to 2nd gear when I get into a turn my rev limiter kicks in, if I stay in 3rd I lose my RPMs and get a crappy exit. I would like some suggestions on what ring and pinion I should be using. Thanks

ring and pinion doesn't count as a mod? interesting. well, if you go up in ratio (bigger number), you will turn more rpms in 2nd gear, which should give you a cleaner exit. you'll lose a little top speed tho.

somebody correct me if i'm wrong, it's almost 5 in the morning and i can't sleep

edit: having reread the origional post, i realize i'm an idiot.

yet i should still be right cuz you'd still turn higher rpms in 3rd, solving the problem.

Re: Which Gear ?

Have you thought about having a custom chip burned to remove the rev-limiter?

No motor work allowed. I removed my smog, heater core, and installed a K&N filter, 4 gallon fuel cell and an MSD fuel pump. My tires are 185/70/14. We must run a 70 series tire and the wheel has to be stock for the year, make and model.
