BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

Hi all,

today I got my BRM P153 from Classic Model Museum in scale 1/12th, winner Spa 1970
with Pedro Rodriguez on the wheel. After a first look I have found some mistakes which I will
show during the WIP.

Here is a photo with all parts.

Re: BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

Hi John,

how would you rate this kit at first glance? I have had contact with a seller of these kits before regarding other 1/12 models - in particular a 917KH. From what I know they've also done a 917LH. However the parts of those kits seemed rather chunky to me and the detail on the rest was... well, I'd say leaving something to be desired, especially since these kits came at a relatively steep price tag of around $300-350. But then they also had white metal parts and not just resin + photoetch. But the models resulting from these kits looking pretty good.

Re: BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

Hi all,

now I will start with the wheels, on the BRM prototype CMM used the Good Year
tyres from the Tyrrell, but this is not correct and so CMM modified the Ferrari 312B rims,
basic for the tyres are the Ferrari 312B Firestones now.

Now I am looking for yellow “DUNLOP RACING” decals or tyre templates in 1/12?

Can anybody help me to find a helmet from Pedro Rodriguez or decals?

Hi John, interesting model, I look forward to what you can do with it, since it doesn't look "to good".
As for decals

Re: BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

Hi all,

Here is the next update. For mounting the front spoilers on the front nose I used a 1mm brass rod.

The end plates on the rear wing are fixed with needles (looks like rivets). The rear wing on Rodriguez’s
car in Spa has only one element and Oliver’s 2 elements.

Now I think about to built the car fast and easy or I will separate the the front nose and cowling
from the chassis to show the cockpit details, this will be a lot of more work.

Hello,

here is the next update, the end plates are replaced the originals are to buckled
and a mounting for the wing suspension is attached.

The rear wing is airbrushed and the decals are placed now. The decals are printed on a white
decal film and so you must cut out the decals very careful to get no white border.

“DUNLOP RACING” decals are available now by Indycals

Interesting, that link works, but otherwise I couldn't find any mention of those decals on the Indycals site. Special order, or just too new for them to be listed on the "Tires" or "Newest releases" pages yet?

I think it is to new.

Hello,

in a other forum I got this information about the rear wing:

"the flag is printed wrong - the diagonal reds are in the wrong place on the white space"
this is correct, but I have seen on the original BRM's there are no diagonal reds!!!!, does anybody know why?

The next step will be the front suspension

Re: BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

Here is the next update.

I have built the front suspension with 2 and 1,5mm brass rods

The front upright I have "loan" from the Tyrrell, it look a little bit better than the resin lump.

An interesting question since the flag without the diagonal reds would be the Union Jack with Ireland excluded. One can only speculate there was a political reasoning behind it.

Re: BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

Are you sure the Union Jack was incomplete ? From the pics of this page, it was normal on Rodriguez's jacket and it seems fine too on the wing: http://carlosghys.be/html/memorabilia_pedro_1.html

Re: BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

If you look closely at the pic you have posted, you will see, that the red cross (on top of the white) bottom left to top right is there, however, the top left to bottom right part of the cross is left white only. And this is the same for both the wing and the decal on the side. So I'd say, there is definitely something going on there

You are right that this part of the cross cannot be seen on the picture. I could not tell if this is the picture or the flag. Here is a close-up picture, but the caption does not mention the race: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pedro-Rodr...item58a03fb813

Re: BRM P153, Spa 1970, Pedro Rodriguez, 1/12th

Hello,

I have found some photos from the French and Belgian GP with very fine red stripes on the Union Jack, thanks for all your help.

Here is the next update, all parts for the front suspension some are from the Tyrrell and some
made with brass rods. On the right side of the photo you can see the original CMM parts.

Test before painting of all suspension parts.

Thanks to Indycals for the fast delivery of the "DUNLOP RACING" decals.
