Civic EX Headers

I have a 98 civic ex non-vortech, single overhead cam. Do they make headers for this? Does anyone have the same car and have put on headers?

Peace,

DZNZ

Re: Civic EX Headers

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the EX models (at least 96 - 00) come with VTEC standard?
I have a 97 EX and yes they do make headers for that. I have a 4-2-1 header/downpipe and it's great. Install takes an hour or less if you have experience, probably up to 2 hours if you don't. This is assuming your catalytic converter is a separate piece. I don't know about the HX/DX models but I'm 90% sure your EX should have a cat like mine.

i hope it doenst have vortech since its not a chevy, you mihgt have vtec though. the motor you have would be the d16y7 and yes they make a header for it, seen ractive for sure. i dont see many people with mods done to these motor though since you cant make much power NA with them. install time is pretty easy, just depends on tools available, i would hate to do it without airtools cuz the bolts on exhaust systems tend to be very difficult to remove. the d16y7 exhaust manifold (header) has the cat right in front of the motor so you gotta remove the o2 sensor and make sure the new header has a spot for it.

Re: Civic EX Headers

Okay -- first off, sorry about the typo -- meant vtec. I have a Jimmy as well and my wires must of been crossed for a moment. It is too early in the morning!

Anyway, thanks James. Yeah, I got airtools -- and thanks for the info on the o2 sensor. I was wondering about that!

Also, no Kafziel-- not all are vtec!

peace,
DZNZ

Re: Civic EX Headers

That's a new one on me. Well, in that case, my help will be limited. But I do have a D-series engine (I wouldn't do a B-series engine swap if you paid me) so I guess for some things I can still answer questions.

Good luck!

Re: Civic EX Headers

Huh,
Well, when I went to auto zone to get rotors, there was a civic ex non-vtec option. In fact, when you punch the oil filter type into Walmart's computer, there is also a non-vtec selections. I am confused. Is there any way to verify this for good?

Thanks.

Re: Civic EX Headers

Just called a honda dealership and they said that there is such a thing as a non-vtec, non DOHC honda civic ex. That's what I have. Man, I was starting to get confused. I wish I had gotten the vtec!

Thanks.

Re: Civic EX Headers

I kinda think maybe Canadian ones didn't come with vtec standard. That might be the reason for the option on store computers.

Probably the easiest way to tell is to gun it and listen for the vtec to kick in (around 5500 I think). You will hear a sudden change in pitch and the car will feel... more alive, like it's suddenly taking deeper breaths (which it is).

I'm sure there's better ways to tell, but I've only ever driven mine and that's what it's like. I don't know much about what the non-vtec ones look like so I don't know what the differences are as far as how things look under the hood.

Re: Civic EX Headers

That is interesting. Yeah, I know what you mean -- mine kicks in around there as well -- which lead me to question. I did notice that the engine did not advertise it -- and there is an absence of a dohc --which I thought all vtecs had????

Anyway, I put the question out there.

Thanks.
