swapping 305 to a 350?
I was wondering if this swap can be made with no problems?
We pulled the 305 and have replaced the motor mounts. I am having problems with the engine setting down on the mounts. The mounts are out of a 85 Chevy van and I think they are holding the motor to high. Any imput? I also want to put the trans out of the van in our bird I beleive it to be a 700? it is longer than the old trans. Any suggestions there. Thanks for your help and good wrench turning to you all. |

Re: swapping 305 to a 350?
I think that the tail shaft out of a van may be a bit longer, so you may want to put the tailshaft off of your original 700R4 on there if that's available.

There shouldn't be any problem as for the 305 converted into the 350. The motor mounts should all be the same, also the brackets, pulleys, harmonic balancer, fuel pump, power steering pump, everything should work. As for the 350 and that 700R4 Tranny, first, if i remember right, that tranny is longer then the Turbo 400 and Turbo 350, which is probably what you had in it before.... so if the tranny is longer, then you will need a different drive shaft to make it work. As for the Engine and tranny mounting together, it depends on the year of the 350, but i pretty sure most of the 350 will bolt straight up to the 700R4. If the bolt pattern doesn't match, you can buy a adapter kit to make it work.
