mustang engine question

i have a 87 mustang. My dad gave it 2 me for my b-day he has it since 87 since they started selling in the dealers so he wants me to pass it on the family. And my dad n me were talking about this. He wants 2 know if a mustang 5.0 H.O engine has more HP then a mustang 5.0. also r all the engines in a mustang H.O diffrent or all mustang's 5.0 have a H.O engine.

Thanks guys
Adrian

basicly, the erly ones have a 215hp H.O engine(82-86?) the later ones got a 225hp H.O engine(87-92), while the H.O for 93 was only 205hp, and the cobra was 235hp. weird isnt it? note: H.Os were equipped on GTs and LXs, and then there are the diff between EFI and CARBs. Complicated, but i'd say anywhere in the 215-225 range ok? go mod it now!

Re: mustang engine question

I was reading something about how the hp dropped from 92-93. They were saying that the actual horsepower didn't change but that they had claimed high previously and 205 was a more accurate representation. Anybody know anything about this?

Re: mustang engine question

ya, i wouldnt spend too much time worrying bout HP figures, its how you drive it that counts. after all, a 302 in a lightweight sports car, how much better can it get?

Re: mustang engine question

auto would slow him down, not speed him us, and if you can drive your stick good enough you should be able to edge him out

They changed the way they measured it in '93. That's when they started measuring at the back of the tranny with a full street exhaust hooked up.

Do a search, I've explained this many of times. It was not just the way it was rated, but a multiple of things tha added up to the HP change in 93.
