¿Steering Pop?¿?
Recently our tahoe has developed a "popping" sound whenever turning very sharp. It doesn't happen if you turn the wheels hard without moving the car, but when you start to move (turning into a driveway or backing out of a parking spot, stuff like that) the steering willl make a popping sound. Has anone else had or heard of this problem before?

it sounds like the infamous "steering klunk" it is a quick fix at your dealer. You can also search the edmunds town hall for "steering klunk" or "clunk" and get a lot of info

Re: ¿Steering Pop?¿?
I heard that sound for a little while, then while driving down the road one day i heard another pop, then my wheels went in different directions. What happened was the nut the holds the tie rods to the front wheels unscrewed thus having no control over my front wheels. Pretty scary if you ask me. I had it fixed and so far no more sound. Chevy needs to install pins on these nuts so they dont come loose. The sound is probably from the slack on the loose rod. Either way, check those nuts, theres no real way to tell how loose they can get

I agree along with KeyserSoze II as he put it the infamous steering klunk. My 2001 Hoe did the same thing when turning, more prevelent to left turns. The dealer did fix the problem and thier service department stated its a flaw though it only it deserve a bullentin on it and no recall because its not a safety issue. But I agree with the other thread that it could be a safety issue and should be fully checked. I just thinking along that it sounds exactly what mine did. Anyway the cure as I was told that there is a steering u-joint of some nature that gets dry and needs grease attention. Good luck, let us know what the outcome is.

Re: Re: ¿Steering Pop?¿?
For what it's worth - when I took mine in the dealer immediately knew what it was and they had it fixed within 2 hours. They do a lot of these......covered if still under warranty of course.
