Question Top Speed

I was driving along the highway this evening and I decided to go all out. I have a 2000 Civic SI. I was in 5th gear doing about 185km/h and revving at about 5000 rpm. All of a sudden it sounded and felt as if the car just died. Is there a limiter on the engine that prevents it from doing a certain speed??? Also, will my vtec kick in when I am in 5th gear and doing more then 5500 rpm???

you probably hit the rev or speed limiter. cause I hit the rev llimiter in parents accord (missed a gear) and the car felt like it had nothing left until the computer let it go again. but yeah you probably jus thit the rev or speed limiter. hope that helps

He hit the speed limiter, not the rev limiter since he was only in the 5000's

yeah the only way to take your speed limiter off would be the chip or getting a performance ecu like Hondata or AEM.

With all the cop blitzes in and around Toronto these days, you might want to consider spending your money on other performance related items, no? At 185km/h you are already in deep do-do if you get caught...

That said, I used to have an Si and I used to run into the speed limiter on occasion, and now I have an SiR and the sky is the limit, and I have to admit, it is pretty nice.

But, damn, can you imagine the size of the fine, the points, and the INSURANCE if you get caught at those speeds? I shudder to think about it...

That's coming back from Edmonton. I've gone a bit past 200km/h before, but since the CRX is so tiny, it felt unstable.

I got caught going 148km/h in a 70 zone. That's no 185, but that's still a lot. My license almost got taken away, and I got put on probation for 6 months. Actually I'm still on probation, but I'm off in a couple weeks!
