The worst Experience I've ever had (this is bad!)

I had a 1986 Ford Mustang GT, rebuilt engine and trans. So I got to this car dealer (I won't mention) called JC Autosales in Rockford, Illinois. Okay, so I find this cool white Trans Am. I ask the salesman, Jimmy "hey can I take it for a ride?" He looks over my car and obliges me with a set of dealer plates and the keys. I get in, car starts up nicely, sounds good, maybe the cat was cut out or something. I go down 251 there, and it runs great, doesn't act up or anything. Pretty quick too. I was suspecting a 3.73 gear. I get back to the dealer (jc autosales, rockford illinois). And Jimmy has his boss, the dealership manager, also named Jimmy out there with him. Big Jimmy says, "we'll give you $1,000 for your Mustang." Fantastic I think, being that they only want a little over a grand for the T/a. So we set up payments in house and exchange titles.
That being done my friend and i take off. I see that it needs gas so I pull into a gas station, and shut it off. It never started again, even after I filled it up. I replaced several parts, right there in the parking lot, since we were right across the street from a parts store. Pissed, I call the dealer back. "Hey Jimmy, this is Jake, this pile of Jimmy won't run. Come get me." He replies. "you left the lot, it's your problem now." I was fuming. I call my friend and he comes to rockford on a very busy street with his 20' trailer and backs into the gas station. He's looking the car over, and checks out the title, then realizes that the title is for an '89 and the car is an 84. We go to the parts store next door and cross the vin from the car, and it is an '84. things are looking bad now, I have a title for a different car. A little worried we trailer it back to my buddies shop and his dad comes out and has a look. The next day, we trailer it back to the dealer, and i very calmly ask him, to undo whatever he did, give me my mustang back (never thought i'd want that back) and call it a day. He obliged and asked that we not notify anyone of his, "error" in the title exchange.
I know that was long, sorry.
Jake

Was that '89 in better condition than your '84? If it were, I would have taken the '89 for a permanent test drive to my house, or at least to a storage shed where the used car sales couldn't find it. What would they tell the police....that you are in possession of a vehicle legally yours, and that you have the paperwork to prove ownership? You're too nice of a person: You had that sales outfit by the balls and didn't take advantage to make them fix your car. I would have at least phoned the local District Attorney's Office first to discuss the matter...or at least asked them outright if they'd prosecute me if I took possession of the '89. If the DA's Office said that they wouldn't pursue the matter, I'd have myself an '89, and not the '84. You don't owe that used car saleman any favors. He treated you like dirt. Play his game: put the screws to him if you can do it legally!

I should have done it that way, but I just wanted to get it made right, and quick like. I wasn't really thinking, I was too mad.
