2001 Mustang ..To buy or Not to buy

Ive been thinking about some cars and the 2001 Mustang came to mind ( base model 3.8) I have a few questions for the owners around here .. Are these reliable at all ? Will I expect frequent stops to the local Shop ? Will the tranny blow out within the first 150k miles ?

My brothers 1995 v6 had 160k miles when he sold it. The only problem it ever had was head gasket failure which was covered by a recall, ford has fixed the problem on the newer v6. The 5-speeds will last for ever with reasonable care, while the auto have a little worse reputation, but are fairly hardy.
Why not take the same amount of money and get like a 95-96 GT?

True, hard but not impossible. There are still some lower miles cars floating around out there. My brother just bought a 94 GT with 70k miles on it and it is mint.

how much did he pay for it ? ... but it just still comes down to it , i like the 99+ bodys alot , its a nice lookin car . Yet the 94gt does have the power . But the way i look at it its still powerful the 2001 , its got 193 Hp, thats alot better than the older 3.8s with 150 .

The head gasket problem decreased substantially from 94 to 98, regardless of mileage. The 2000+ have 193 hp while the 99 has 188(?) because of either exhaust or something around that area.

The 99+ are good for high to mid 15s, even possible to get into the high 14s.

Its a solid buy for cheap insurance but if you want power, go for a 94-95 GT or a 99+ GT.

I've got a 2001 V6 and so far I have had no problems with it. *knocks on wood* I bought it with 18000 miles on it for about 11 thousand. It's a really nice car, but I wish I would've waited and got a V8.

.

I've ridden in one of the V6 models I think it was a 99. When the guy was pushing it at first it felt like it had pretty good torque I was surprised by it. But the car's power seem to lack at about 50-55 mph I dunno it didn't feel like there was any more guts left to it. See for yourself honestly it could of just been his car wasn't in very good condition or something of the sort.

Handling appeared great for just driving around city areas and I'm sure its probably fun to drive.

Nah they wouldn't laugh. They might look at the car sometimes though, wanting to race. Only to get closer and realize it was a V6 and not worth it. I wouldn't worry about it some people just like buying a sporty car to go back and forth to work instead of some typical junk heap or sedan. Personally though I couldn't stand buying a V6 either, knowing that I'm driving a shell of a vehicle that is supposed to be fast. I would have to buy a V8 model or not buy one at all.

No doubt a V-8 is gonna hurt the insurance more but don't kid yaself about a V-6. If it says Mustang Insurance is gonna F you up the arse still.

Yeah I understand that, you could just buy a cheap car and save up for a GT later on.
