decals on Chrome or Clear parts - do you protect them in any way ?
Hi,
just wondering when you put decals on say windscreen or headlamp glass, or on say the Chromed Bike frames from Tamiya ( that you may not have painted ) , for example, would you protect in anyway ? I suppose a good polymer wax polish might do the trick, or carefully painting over some satin varnish just over the edges of the decal ? Or not at all ? any advice would be helpful ? cheers BIG"S" |

Nope
In my experience, even some microsol or microset will "hurt" the chrome or the clear part. just leave them alone

Wax over decals on clear parts would be good. Protects it.

Carnuba wax will act as a protectorant for the frame decals on the bike's frame, as will a clear acrylic gloss (Future/et al).
Once dry you can then blackwash the frame and overcoat with a clear satin lacquer/enamel. For decals on clear parts (i.e. driver names on WRC cars) I once again use Future. Place the decal on the clear part and let it dry. Then overcoat the entire clear panel with Future and place in a CLEAN area to dry (I put it under a clear glass bowl so remove dust and make sure I don't touch the part with the bowl). Practice this on scrap first to get the process down... hth, Bill |

What I do is apply future just over the decal with a Q-Tip. This puts a very nice thin coat of protection. It levels and shows no brushmarks. Try it I think you'll like it.
