H22 Swap...again.

Alright, as you guys can probably see from my user profile, I havne't been in this area very long. I know a minimal amount about cars and am just starting to get interested because a couple friends of mine expressed their opinions that my 1990 Honda Accord DX *could* have the potention to be much quicker with a new engine swapped in.

http://www.jspecautosports.com/jas/html/h22a.html

That is looking promising from what little information I actually know about the process. I realize I would also need a new intake and new exhaust, from what I have learned from my friends, but I have no idea what else might be required.

Simply, I am looking for a general cost estimate and any compatability concerns or suggestions any of you guys have about what I hope to do. I would not be able to install this myself, so I would also like an installation estimate included within any information you could give me. I really appreciate anything you all can help me with, and if this ends up being feasible for me(a high school senior) both financially and practically, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Again, thanks for all your help.

P.S. - Let me know if this is just a big waste of time, if that is how you feel about it.

No project is a waste of time unless you don't finish what you started. I have a friend that put the h22a into his 91 accord. Alot better then the f22a he had before. For that package ebay has plenty. If you want everything look at about $2400 avg. That includes alot of times engine, tranny, manifolds, acessories(ac, altenator), wire harness, and ECU. He found a local guy by word of mouth to do the install. The guy did it in his garage and charged $400. But if you don't want to spend that much go with the f22b1 in the later accords they have plenty of potential. That is what I have in my accord and I surpass the h22 quite a bit.

the wiring harness in that h22 motor package your lookin at is cut... meaning its goin to be a hassle to wire, id search for a complete non-cut harness

Re: H22 Swap...again.

If the harness is cut you can use the F22 harness. Get a V-Tec harness from Hasport and you are good to go. I did the h22 in my 91 accord. Great power gain. You may need a bit of an nest egg to do the swap. Here are some exsamples of what happened to me: $400 for all new motor mounts <my stock ones were worn out>, $200 for distributor <which had to be modified because the JDM is different from the ones in the US>, $85 for the V-Tec sub-harness <my H22 came with a cut harness so I used my F22 harness since the F22 was non-Vtec I needed the sub harness. You can get an engine tranny and ECU from www.jazzsproparts.com for $1850. My total install ran $1200. $1000 for the inational install and $200 to fix what the first guy did wrong. Hope this helps. Good Luck with your swap!
