Question 96 Accord EX - check engine light

Recently on my 1996 Honda Accord EX the check engine light came on. I called Honda Service, they told me it could be a bunch of different reasons. Asked me if I put gas in the car recently (I did a few days prior). They told me to check to make sure the gas cap is on tight. They asked if I was having performance issues, at the time the engine sounded fine and was running fine (was going down the road at a constant rate of speed at the time).

I did notice that when I am slowing down to either turn or for basic traffic slow-downs as soon as I start to accelerate the RPMs go way up before it shifts, feels as though it lags.

Any ideas, suggestions, comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Clint

Re: 96 Accord EX - check engine light

your local autostores, like AutoZone, can scan your ECU for trouble codes for free.
once your get trouble code you can look thru trouble code list to see why your CEL is on.
here is list: http://www.nology.com/OBD2FaultCodes.htm
