Saab 900 i needed!
Can anyone tell me if any model making companies have made or are still making '85 Saab 900i models. I would really like to get hold of one. 1/24 scale preferably.
Thanks |

Re: Saab 900 i needed!
The only SAAB's that I'm aware of is in 1/43 and it's a bunch of rallye cars. You can get them from Http://www.grandprixmodels.com just search their huge stock and you'll se. Why not influence Trumpeter in their survey, I did.

Bburago has made a 1/24 diecast Saab 900 3-door model with rally graphics and Finnish company Stahlberg has made 1/12 (according to what I saw in the net) promotional model of the 5-door model ca. 1985. I believe I had one of these Stahlberg Saabs when I was a kid, but I don't think it was that large, more likely 1/24 - 1/20. However that was 20 years ago when I was 5yrs old so I may remember wrong... The model was made of softish plastic and was quite well detailed.

Thanks mel for that link. However i would really like something like a 1/24 plastic kit like i said. The reason is that I have a real '85 Saab 900i and it is time to say goodbye to it soon so would like to make a model of it, rust and all, for prosterity. If i find one i will post on here in BIG letters. Ok?
The search continues.......... |

Those all seem to be 1/25 versions and there's a 4 door version too. All you need to do is to find one, copy the body and parts in resin and scratch build your own model... I don't think that would be impossible for someone with good casting skills to turn one of these into a resin kit. They look quite accurate.

Or he can just make 2 more doors with some putty work and cutting out the panel lines?

The plastic of those toy cars is soft and kinda waxy, a bit like Tupperware food boxes or buckets. I think it's impossible to make the putty adhere on it and rescribing would be very challenging too. Someone could detail the resin body and make all the details sharper and that way it would be easier to make a 'real' model of a car with resin body.
The 4 door model has different rear than the 3/5 door models: ![]() -Mikko |

Thanks for all your suggestions, but I've only really just started making kits so scratch building is not on the cards just yet. I just haven't got the tools or the skill. I am still going to try tracking down a kit i think. Or maybe after a while I'll just forget it.

Re: Saab 900 i needed!
