Depens what you want it for. A mustang 98 Cobra will beat the Civic Si in any performance test.
Looking for relaiability and some fun? Get the civic. Mustangs look like shit, that generation. The civic si looks better IMO. I was faced with kinda the same decision, weather to get a 1999 Si or a 1998 Mustang GT. I choose the Si over the GT, Neon R/T, and Golf GTI. Im still pretty happy with my decision.

If it was between an '87 Mustang 5.0 and a '99 Civic EX, I'd have a hard time deciding which to vote for.

That depends on how bad you wanna take it from your insurance co., and if you wanna dump a ton on gas. Don't get me wrong, mustangs aren't bad at all (it's what a lot of us try to beat 90% of the time), but they do have their drawbacks. And depending on your age, your insurance would tear you a new one for it. Also, if you live in Cali, you're gonna paye every time the needle reads, "E". Just one more thing to consider.

si. american muscle is garbage...i just raced an srt4 today and lost by like a 1/4 of a car, but my engine doesnt idle for shit and is running way too rich and my evap purge control valve isnt hooked up..mines a 1.9 ls vtec all motor and he was a 2.4 turbo. amazing things these imports can do
