Post K1500 V-6 Timing Issue?

I have a 95 full size short wide 4X4 with the 262 V-6 TBI Z engine. The truck diesels down when turning off and i get about 7 miles to the gallon on the highway. You can also smell gas for the first tem minutes of drive time. I suspect the timing is off but dont know what it should be set at. 10 or 12 seems about right?

there is a wire you have to unplug to set the timing.. i think its black with a brown tracer right near the distributor and firewall, the timing advance number should be on the sticker on the fan shroud... set it and give it a try... if not i would say its a bad module or ecm
