87 Wrangler Loose Steering Column
Hello -
My 1987 YJ has a problem. The steering column has become super loose. I pulled the steering wheel this afternoon and was met with a thick sprocket on the post. Behind this sprocket lies the turn signal mechanism. I can see one screw that, I think, needs to be tightened. However, I can't get past this sprocket. Any thoughts? Thanks. - Doug |

Re: 87 Wrangler Loose Steering Column
Might want to check up under the dash. I haven't owned that vintage of Jeep, but the column might be bolted up somewhere that you can get to; might be able to fixit w/o removing the steering wheel....

Re: 87 Wrangler Loose Steering Column
this is the lock plate - it's held on with a small snap ring - go to the local auto store and buy the $10 tool and it pulls the shaft up to gain access to the snap ring
