Good deal?

I recently found a 1990 Civic DX, 5spd manual in town. It has 125K miles on it and is for sale for $750 bucks. The side is missing the plastic trim that runs horizontally on it, and there are a few tears in the interior, but seems to run well still. Just wondering what you 4th gen experts thought about the deal, I only have a 6th gen EX right now, but was looking at another project car.... any thoughts would be helpful. Oh yeah its a hatch and has no rust.

i would say its not to shabby. i got my ass raped when i bought my manual 5spd 91 sedan for $1500. Rusty as hell, 87,000, runs well however. The guy dicked me bad, he "forgot" to mention that the car has no A/C [i need to find out how to fix that] and occasionally wont start...occasionally meaning twice a week. So you got a nice deal I'd say, but I'm a newb, so lets see what the experts say...

that sounds like a perfect deal. if no major dents and runs = good for under $1000

mines got dents all over the place , would it be better to take out the dents myself, or buy new doors from a salvage yard?

Depends on how bad the dents are, if they are not too deep and easily poppable try popping them yourself, otherwise just get new doors. DingKing actually works for minor dents, other wise you might need to get a few body working tools.

Re: Good deal?

mine had a few dents, had 165000 miles, was featured on the TV show Cops, and I paid $650 for it. Runs great, left me standed in a parking lot day after I baught it, had a dead battery. Guy had replaced the altinator right before I baught it and I guess the bad one had drained the battery to point of no return. Havnt had a single problem out of it after that.

Re: Good deal?

Well ended up getting it for 600, slight dents on the front near the headlights, engine starts up and sounds great. Clutch needs some adjustment though, hopefully not replacement yet, lots of play in the stick not sure what that is yet, and seems to get a bit on the warm side when idling. But engines still got scoot. Whats the easiest decent swap for this gen?

Thanks for the suggestion, any idea on how difficult it is? Not so much about motor mounts and such but thinks like new parts needed, ecu wiring?

according to jer a b16 is easier than sohc vtec....ask gta.

depending on where your oder your b16, some places include the ecu and other parts. what you need to do is some good ol' fashion research. find out where you're going to buy the engine and take it from there

Re: Good deal?

Cool thanks, I was looking at picking up a complete changeover from Hmotorsonline, unless there are other suggestions. I've just been looking for any snags I may run into from others who have done it.
