PICS: New CD Deck and Gauge Light Color

did a couple little changes in my car this past week and had my camera lying around so thought i'd bore you all with some pics

http://jayesiye.myphotoalbum.com/vie...lbumName=Stuff (i would link them all but that host won't let me, and my normal webspace is done hence the red x in my profile)

my new CD player is a Panasonic CQ-DF903U its brushed steel colored with a blue display that also has graphics on it. I bought it b/c it looked hella cool and now thats its in it sounds great too (the 50 watts per is much better than the 15 i had before). its also go tons of inputs for subwoofers, changers, and other auxillary devices

I also had been thinking about changing the color of the lights on my gauge cluster. as you can tell with my new cd player I like blue and i had some blue film lying around so i decided to try something new. i like it alot for now, i may decide to go more blue or another color, i dunno, its different

I like the cluster... Did you use blue bulbs also, or just film? In the pictures, it looks like an ice blue... is that the way it looks in person, or is that just how the pics turned out?

EDIT:

Oh, and exactly how did you do that? I've never torn into my guage cluster that far, but I figured the red lenses (or film or whatever) were imprinted with the symbols, or are they on seperate layers or what?

Re: PICS: New CD Deck and Gauge Light Color

during hte day they look kinda aqua but at night they are more light blue

here's what i did. i took the cluster out, then popped off the front cover (there are 5 or 6 clips holding it on). just make sure you don't try to take off jus the clear pastic, you gotta take off the whole front part (wish i had pics to explain but you'll see when you look).
the color actually comes from some semi-clear colored pastic thats over the light bulbs. the imprint of what you see is actually on the part that you just took off, again you'll see when you take it off. but you'll see a bunch of colored squares on the cluster itself. i took a knife and carefully pryed them out making sure not to tear anything up (they came out pretty easily).
for the color i just used regular blue film about 5 layers to give it more color, if you use less it will be lighter so either use 5 layers or get darker colored film. then i tape it onto the front piece behind the part that has all the images on it. you could also probably put the film over where the light bulbs are too, i just did it this way to see if it would wrok and it did. i should have taken pictures of the whole process but tis so easy to do once you get in there that you'll know what to do.

i'm actually surprised not a whole lot of people have done this since its so easy. maybe i've started something

Try this, wasn't hard just time consuming. I did the clock until I get the JDM amber one. Anyone got one for sale?

How did you exactly do that with the climate controls? Colored bulbs or paint. And the clock? That looks flippen awesome.

Thanks for the comment. I just used blue cellophane called "Cello Wrap" wrap from Party City. If I remember right it was like a dollar and you get 8 sq ft. I took the faceplate off the climate control and taped two sheets thick cellophaneover the back, same with the clock. I tried the oarnge but I didn't like it. I suppose I could do a how-to on it when I get some time. Oh and new bulbs help too.

Re: PICS: New CD Deck and Gauge Light Color

Ok, so I like it but I also really like my stock colors. I dunno. Definetly a nice mod but I don't think I'd do it.

Jay, whats up with your center console and the gap?

Re: PICS: New CD Deck and Gauge Light Color

the gap is there b/c I just haven't finished bolting the integra console to the part around the stereo and climate control. most people put 2 screws in abover the coin holder but i'm wanting to have them hidden. and i just work too much to get out there and mess with it, but it works for now
