Wheel hopping with the Spec V

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I'm the only one who suffers from wheel hopping when i do a Full Throttle Launch in my spec v. I feel that most of the time the wheels are spinning faster than my car is actually moving and by that time I redline and I have to shift to second gear but my car isn't moving fast enough. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to do a FTL without the wheel hopping? Thanks.

you need to really feather it to not get wheel hop.
you might want to invest in motor mount inserts.
i've heard that the nismo lower tie bar also decreases wheel hop.

Re: Wheel hopping with the Spec V

Its a normal thing on the Spec. Same exact thing happened to me first time I tried to stomp the throttle off the line.

I've had some hop in second gear but not nearly as much as from a dead stop.

Re: Wheel hopping with the Spec V

Just to add one more thing, I have my tire pressure set at 40psi. Would lower the pressure decrease wheel hopping? Nissan recommends tire pressure set at 35 psi, but I feel I get a smoother ride at 40psi and my gas mileage actually increases too.

Re: Wheel hopping with the Spec V

Nissan actually factor in "Anti-Dive" properties so that when you are braking, the front suspension does not bottom out and smash your bumper against the road with the weight transfer. If you have stiff front suspension, fitting an "Anti-Lift" kit will virtually eliminate wheel hop by allowing your wheel alignment geometry to not lift on hard launches. It is basically an offset bush for the rear mount of the lower suspension arm(where it connects to the firewall / chassis) I have one on my car (in Australia), will supply a pic of one soon and see if you guys can get one made for your car.
Then again, you could just use first until about 4000rpm to get the wheels rolling and then rev it out in second gear to eliminate the problem...

Re: Wheel hopping with the Spec V

Drop the clutch at lower rpm's ind that perfect launch rpm should be 2800 to 3200, if that doesent work power shifht the shit out of it.drop the clutch spin the wheels up to redline slam it into second without taking ur foot off the gas , u should spin almost all the way through second, my boy won a lot races that way
