99 suburban

just dropped off suburban at the shop for diag... found a leak on garage floor yesterday, reddish in color. Had Tranny rebuilt 9 months ago.
Shop just called and said wasn't transmission, have engine leak. He mentioned something about engine oil pan, something about a gasket? Then I heard the $471.35 "that's" the part that got my attention! I'm clueless female. $$ the repairs or look elsewhere???
Thanks for your help!

thanks Tuffy! I appreciate your reply! We opted "not" to go there... He told us it was Engine oil... engine oil pink? So we're looking around.

The pink fluid could be the Coolant if you have the GM long life coolant, which many Subs that age probably have. If that is what the problem is, you may have the intake manifold problem commonly reported here. Mine was covered under warranty, but would have cost around $750.00.

The garage did a leak test to nail mine down. There are lots of postings here though on the subject if you want to diagnose yourself, but don't wait. Once the coolant starts leaking inward, instead of just outward, it does all kinds of damage to the engine.

sounds like an intake manifold gasket to me. they are notorious for failing on the ends. I did mine . Itis about a six hour job. Supposedly they are designed to leak externally only, but I don't know how they could do that. Good luck

Don't automatically think it is the intake manifold. I'm taking mine in tomorrow to have the water pump replaced ($189.00). My mechanic told me that the Dexcool coolant is deadly and to have a flush and fill every 2 years at least to avoid both water pump and intake manifold problems. Have the water pump checked. Good luck.
